Description
Project Description: The solar bike project involves integrating solar panels with an electric bike to create a sustainable transportation solution. Students will mount the solar panels on the bike to capture sunlight and generate electrical energy. This energy will be directed to a battery through a charge controller, which ensures efficient charging and battery protection.
The electric motor, powered by the battery, will provide propulsion for the bike. A motor controller will regulate the motor’s speed based on input from the throttle. Optionally, a pedal assist system can be included to allow manual pedaling in conjunction with the electric motor.
Steps Involved:
- Mount Solar Panels: Secure the solar panels on the bike’s frame or a suitable carrier.
- Install Charge Controller and Battery: Connect the solar panels to the charge controller, which will then connect to the battery.
- Integrate Electric Motor and Controller: Mount the electric motor on the bike and connect it to the motor controller.
- Connect Throttle and Display Unit: Install the throttle on the handlebar and connect it to the motor controller. Install the display unit to show battery status and speed.
- Safety Checks: Ensure all connections are secure, and safety equipment is in place.
Applications:
- Demonstrating renewable energy applications in transportation
- Providing a practical example of integrating solar energy with electric vehicles
- Offering hands-on experience with solar energy systems, electric motors, and power management
